Leonard Cohen

In my family, Leonard Cohen, the Canadian songwriter and poet usually makes an auditory appearance during Christmas. In “Hallelujah” he speaks to the experience of being a human. It was blasted in our kitchen this morning filled with coffee smell:

“And love is not a victory march
It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah.”

I will repeat it as it deserves to be repeated. I can experience love as a cold and broken experience of remembering the innumerable ways I am blessed.
