I think one of grand characteristics of global health, and the people who do it, is an interest in inhabiting many worlds at once. The jungle surrounding Iquitos houses world upon world upon world. The photo below shows tiny worlds of butterfly larvae from a local buttlerfly farm and animal sanctuary. I have lived and worked in the mountains, the coast, and the jungle of Peru in 3 years. Many verisons of Spanish and culture after culture after culture.
I think part of what is required to do this work is to be enriched by these worlds and the real challenges that come with with, not exhausted by them. I suppose that is why it´s a particular breed of us who do this, who are both invigorated and also worn out. It´s a new tribe.
