When you are in the middle of a new situation doing something difficult, you are not trying to be courageous. You are simply trying to do the task at hand. You feel insecure. You would likely say
I am just… dealing.
Courage is not an elementary school value you have tacked up on the wall of your adult life. You just wanted to get through something and be a little bit bigger version of yourself.
Courage, when you are really in it, just feels like struggle or not knowing.
Only later, after you have done the hard or weird thing, does it look like courage. Not when you are in it. When you are in it, it is mostly unsureness and struggle. But later, it is courage. That´s the gift of the perspective I think. That´s not the sexy narrative, but it´s more what it is like.
