I know that creative people often believe that they are simply messengers from the muse. The muse offers us new ideas and strikes us with something profound. As Steven Pressfield recently reminded me, our work is to document and share these messages according to our own lives. We become the personal messengers of transcendental ideas.
So, where do these creative ideas come from? What is the source?
Whatever I do or don’t specifically call it, I believe in this divine sourcing of ideas. They aren’t really mine in the same way that giving birth to a child doesn’t mean you are the owner of the child. These things pass through us and we share them. We become vessels for the creative flow. We get out of our own way. New things enter. Thank God. I learn how to develop the habit of writing and reading (my goal this year) and sparks of inspiration fly that I often identify as coming from the Muse. Why do creatures grow over time? What comes to us?
