I remember when I would go to craft shows in the US, the craftspeople would usually have one theme then stay with it it. For example, there would be a whole tented area filled with hand-crocheted animals with a specific type of very round sparkly eyes. I remember this even now.

And I think it’s very easy for creators to get stuck in one specific pattern.

We just keep doing the same thing.

But what would happen when we don’t make the same thing over and over? If our signature was, in fact, a wide variety of things? We don’t just make animals but we are a woodworker and a painter and a coder. When we are “deep generalists” artistically speaking as well? What would happen then?

I want the tent of my creative life to have all kinds of random things. Sure there might be so sparkly eyes but there would be things sodered together, trash collected, and random audio recordings. Kind of all of it. Because whoever tries the most number of things wins.

Recuerdo que cuando iba a ferias de artesanía en Estados Unidos, los artesanos solían tener un tema y se quedaban con él. Por ejemplo, había una carpa llena de animales tejidos a mano con un tipo específico de ojos brillantes muy redondos. Aún lo recuerdo.

Y creo que es muy fácil para los creadores quedarse atascados en un patrón específico.

Seguimos haciendo lo mismo.

Pero, ¿qué pasaría si no hiciéramos lo mismo una y otra vez? ¿Si nuestra firma fuera, de hecho, una gran variedad de cosas? No sólo hacemos animales, sino que somos carpinteros, pintores y programadores. ¿Cuando seamos "generalistas profundos" también artísticamente hablando? ¿Qué pasaría entonces?

Quiero que la tienda de mi vida creativa tenga todo tipo de cosas aleatorias. Seguro que habría ojos tan brillantes, pero también habría cosas unidas, basura recogida y grabaciones de audio aleatorias. Más o menos de todo. Porque quien más cosas pruebe, gana.
