In the words of a wise friend, these experiences are "life affirming." More life please. I want the experience with more of everything, more adventure, more depth, more knowing. Chile is and was no exception. What makes this travel more meaningful are the humans who accompany you in the process. It is the sharing of experience of joy that makes more joy. Here are the angles of the experience that have stayed with me longer.
Wave breakers on the coastline of Arica. I was particularly struck with this yellow child well-suited for the cement.
Christo de la Paz (Peace of Christ) statue atop the cliff overlooking Arica. This statue was erected in 1999 and is located at the site of the Peruvian defeat by Chile in 1880.
This quote from Spanish-Cuban born writer Gertrudis Gomez de Avellaenda is "La mayor virtud no compensa el defecto del talento." It translates to "The greatest virtue does not compensate for the defect of talent." I love the small altars in rememberance of road accidents. These small alters remind me of my visit to Bali last year.
To end, a photo from the cemetery in Urabamba, Peru as a comparison of sacred space to sacred space.
