It seems that zoning out, daydreaming, walking slowing, sleeping all day, and otherwise not conversing fall into a certain category. Perhaps a forgotten category in my life before, now entering the stage with a bigger presence.
Negative space.
This is the space where very little energy is thrust into the world by you. The space of lounging, delicious and sufficient sleep, and unproductive social time. Being in the same room as other people without talking to them. Yesterday, it was lying by the river with a new friend. It is Christmas Day when people just hang out.
This is the category where rest really abides, I believe. Where we become who we want to be, again.
As the poet David Whyte says:
“Rest is the conversation between what we love to do and how we love to be.”
