I attended the 30 Americans exhibit 7 years ago in Washington, DC. It moved me. It is now at the Nelson Adkins Museum in Kansas City. I thought about it in the years since I saw it. As I was walking around it the other day, I was aware of a few topics…elevating often unheard voices, bringing people together, and how brutal histories are so tough to interact with. I carried my notebook with me.
Also, I thought about art. I wrote a few things down in my notebook.
Art is a way of saturating myself into the new.
Art as a way to push myself into things that make me uncomfortable, with things I have never interacted with before.
When looking at art, I find myself in “absorption mode”. I love experiencing myself in this mode.
