I do global health work and nothing is owed to me. No one´s change of persons beliefs. No one has to do or think anything differently. I often just need to shut up and listen.
There a many Evangelical missionaries in Iquitos. In fact, that is why it was founded in the 1700’s. I see them at huge tables over lunch, spilling onto one another. Talking about Christ, but I have a sense that Jesus would not be pushy.
But if my work in this profession comes in the idea that I have a more correct concept of how a person needs to live, I am wrong.
Didn´t I study the colonial history? Isn´t public health intrinsically a little paternalistic?
Yeah. But, I am not a missionary. The greatest difference simply comes from a desire to understand.
