I ride mototaxis several times a day in Iquitos. They are loud, open air, and require mototaxi drivers.

It´s a fair statement these mototaxi drivers and I have had very different lives.

One thing we share? Curiousity.

Where are you from? How long have you been in Peru? Do you like Peruvian food? Do you have a husband? How long will you live here? Do you speak English?

These drivers have no idea their own lives could be a point of curiousity to me. When I start to ask them questions, the entire dynamic changes. The subject and object shift. They are no longer interviewing me. They become the subject worthy of curiousity. I recommend this switch.

Hago mototaxis varias veces al día en Iquitos. Son ruidosos, al aire libre, y requieren de conductores de mototaxis.

Es una afirmación justa que estos conductores de mototaxis y yo hemos tenido vidas muy diferentes.

¿Una cosa que compartimos? La curiosidad.

¿De dónde eres? ¿Cuánto tiempo llevas en Perú? ¿Te gusta la comida peruana? ¿Tienes un marido? ¿Cuánto tiempo vivirás aquí? ¿Hablas inglés?

Estos conductores no tienen ni idea de que sus propias vidas pueden ser un punto de curiosidad para mí. Cuando empiezo a hacerles preguntas, toda la dinámica cambia. El sujeto y el objeto cambian. Ya no me están entrevistando. Se convierten en el sujeto digno de curiosidad. Recomiendo este cambio.
