Peru just had a very contested election. The week before the election was nothing short of a circus. Politicans caravanning around Iquitos, there were parades and costumes. I asked my friends if all of this was normal.

Yes, they replied.

Just two weeks after the circus, the giant screen advertising a certain politican, formerly parked in front of my house, already had the faces removed.

I found it to be so odd and a fascinating comment on temporality.

How long did they expect that face to remain in my memory? Not long, it seems. I´d like for people to plan to stick around longer.

Perú acaba de tener unas elecciones muy disputadas. La semana anterior a las elecciones fue nada menos que un circo. Los políticos iban en caravana por Iquitos, había desfiles y disfraces. Pregunté a mis amigos y amigas si todo esto era normal.

Apenas dos semanas después del circo, la pantalla gigante que anunciaba a cierto político, antes aparcada frente a mi casa, ya tenía las caras quitadas.

Me pareció muy extraño y un comentario fascinante sobre la temporalidad.

¿Cuánto tiempo esperaban que esa cara permaneciera en mi memoria? Parece que no mucho. Me gustaría que la gente planeara quedarse más tiempo.
