Those who have offered the most guidance live in equal measure with empathy and meticulous care. My therapist is this way. As are both of my mentors. I've heard how they talk to their spouses. I've seen their thank-you's. I know they are secretly and carefully accountable to themselves. Their carefulness resides in how they create projects, care for themselves, make money, and act in possibility.
But then I wonder - what if we just want reassurance, all the time, anyway? Instead of asking for something that would lead to real improvement?
To be told how great our second language is and how intelligent and capable we are? To be praised for our one, precious idea?
That’s where the grown-up professional clears her throat.
That's why I secretly appreciate "leveling". It’s rarer.

Los que más me han orientado viven a partes iguales con empatía y meticulosidad. Mi terapeuta es así. Como lo son mis dos mentores. He oído cómo hablan con sus cónyuges. He visto sus agradecimientos. Sé que se rinden cuentas a sí mismos en secreto y con sumo cuidado. Su cuidado reside en cómo crean proyectos, cuidan de sí mismos, ganan dinero y actúan en la posibilidad.
Pero entonces me pregunto:
¿y si sólo queremos seguridad, todo el tiempo?
¿En lugar de pedir algo que nos lleve a una mejora real?
¿Que nos digan lo buena que es nuestra segunda lengua y lo inteligentes y capaces que somos?
¿Que nos alaben por nuestra única y preciosa idea?
Ahí es donde la profesional adulta se aclara la garganta. Por eso aprecio secretamente la "nivelación". Es más raro.
