I went to the jungle last week. It was mind bending. A completely different reality than anything I had experienced in Cusco or Lima so far. I visited there with 2 public health friends from my new work at Prisma. I was struck by entering this new place with a great feeling of imagination with the constant pragmatic conversation that public health people bring to the table. We talked about tropical medicine, public health, sewage, and communities at major risk. We also ate delicious food and I tried several new types of fruit (chuchuhuasi, camu camu, and cocona). It was odd to be a tourist for the first time in awhile. I feel so focused on not being a tourist 99% that embracing it was an uncomfortable and different shift.
