I think you can say a lot about culture. It appears to be infinite. After working in public public health, it is also so impactful on our most intimate selves. This includes what we think about ourselves, how we connect to other people, how we make sense of how we live. I cannot generally talk about the culture in Perú too much at this point, but I do have a couple of observations.
I experience an intimacy in very mundane daily interactions with people. People I do not know know, who have nearly no information about me. When people talk about Latina "warmth", it is a real thing in my experience. Like you can talk with someone and while standing in Lima at the grocery store, and there is an opening. And you can join them in a close space of human interest and presence for even just one to two minutes. Like they care to hear, they are concerned, and you can both be there together.
This is possible anywhere, in any context. But here, it seems to be cultural and as such more pervasive. I also see how much this aspect of culture really, really helps people.
