Taking the Time

The people I respect the most, both personally and professionally

take their time.

No shortcuts. No rushes. Nothing done too quickly, however, sometimes quickly to keep fear behind instead of in front.

  • Allowing a full thought to take its time coming out of your mouth.

  • Speaking slowly enough so people understand you the first time.

  • Reading this blog again before sending it.

  • Actually cooking dinner, cutting up vegetables, and carefully tasting everything as you go along.

  • Taking time to do unpleseant grownup activities like reviewing your finances.

  • Reading books.

  • Writing longer and more detailed emails.

  • Listening to your body when you are tired.

  • Honoring the fact that some days are not designed to be fun but need to be done anyway.

  • Not running from painful feelings. Running does not help the productive funcion of a life as bad feelings don´t go away until they are felt or things don´t go away.

  • Taking the time to be honest and to say what you need to say.

  • Remembering what you are still afraid of, incompetent at doing, and overall would rather not spend time on.
