I buy matches in Iquitos. I have them in my apartment, and I go through them. They work well with the small gas stove I use for cooking. The matchbox I bought a few weeks ago was a larger size than normal, and the matches were problematic. The sides of matchbox peeled off making it hard to light. I stood in my kitchen trying to light match after match with a dead box of matches. It felt like I was waiting for Godot. Nothing to happen.

This, I considered, is what it feels for so many to keep existing. We keep trying to light matches off a dead box. Matches that won´t ignite one after another. Really, we need to get a smaller, fresher matchbox to keep lighting and keep cooking lunch.

La caja de fósforos que compré hace unas semanas era de un tamaño más grande de lo normal, y los fósforos eran problemáticos. Los lados de la caja de fósforos se desprendían y era difícil encenderlos. Me quedé en mi cocina intentando encender una cerilla tras otra con una caja de cerillas muerta. Parecía que estaba esperando a Godot. No ocurría nada.

Esto, consideré, es lo que sienten muchos al seguir existiendo. Seguimos intentando encender fósforos de una caja muerta. Cerillas que no prenden una tras otra. Realmente, necesitamos conseguir una caja de fósforos más pequeña y fresca para seguir encendiendo y seguir cocinando el almuerzo.
