The weather in Iquitos is personality-driven.*
Often with a flair of the dramatic or melancholic. When it rains instead of drizzles, it also rains inside my bedroom. When it floods, the streets turn into rivers. When it’s hot, my skin is unsafe in most of its locations.
The weather is actually what dictates the day or not day. It dictates what events will happen, how people will arrive, if people will arrive, how long everything takes, and how wet one gets. This is the direct contact that makes enormous sense to me.
Since most people from Iquitos don’t like getting wet, I often walk when it’s raining. I also get wet when I walk. After my breakfast this morning, I was greeted a river on the street below instead of the street. As the rivers rise and fall here, what was wet become dry and later becomes wet. It´s a melding of environment of outside and inside, of comfort and discomfort.
What I want is place-ness.

A menudo con un toque dramático o melancólico. Cuando llueve, en lugar de lloviznar, también llueve dentro de mi habitación. Cuando se inunda, las calles se convierten en ríos. Cuando hace calor, mi piel es insegura en la mayoría de sus lugares.
El tiempo es en realidad lo que dicta el día o no día. Dicta qué acontecimientos ocurrirán, cómo llegará la gente, si la gente llegará, cuánto tiempo tarda todo y cómo se moja uno. Este es el contacto directo que tiene un enorme sentido para mí.
Como a la mayoría de la gente de Iquitos no le gusta mojarse, suelo caminar cuando llueve. Yo también me mojo cuando camino. Esta mañana, después de desayunar, me ha recibido un río en la calle de abajo en lugar de la calle. Como los ríos suben y bajan aquí, lo que estaba mojado se convierte en seco y más tarde en húmedo. Es una fusión de ambiente de exterior e interior, de comodidad e incomodidad.
Lo que quiero es el lugar.
