A woman I know is already paying for her own funeral and that of her elderly sister.

On the 15th of each month, a guy from the funeral home comes to collect her payment. When I heard it, I immediately thought it seems like a Stoic exercise.

“I am going to die, but I am not sure when. I want to be ready for that time .” I love that philosophy. Death is something to prepare for, and we design our lives to make space for the truly inevitable. We want to have lived well. We want to have gone ahead. We want to be fully used up.

We want to have our own mortality, present.

It makes us more alive, I think.

El día 15 de cada mes, un tipo de la funeraria viene a recoger su pago. Cuando lo oí, pensé inmediatamente que parecía un ejercicio estoico.

"Voy a morir, pero no estoy segura de cuándo. Quiero estar preparado para ese momento". Me encanta esa filosofía. La muerte es algo para lo que hay que prepararse, y diseñamos nuestras vidas para dejar espacio a lo verdaderamente inevitable. Queremos haber vivido bien. Queremos haber salido adelante. Queremos estar totalmente agotados.

Queremos tener nuestra propia mortalidad, presente.

Nos hace más vivos, creo.
